Privacy
a one-person shop, one product, one promise: the app does not phone home. the website is the only place we ever see you, and only in two specific cases below.
What we collect
- your email, only if you give it to us to grab the beta download. used to send the download link and the rare product update. one click to unsubscribe.
- aggregate website analytics — page views, country, referrer. no cookies, no fingerprinting, no individual tracking. powered by a privacy-first analytics provider.
- support emails you send us. obviously. they sit in an inbox until we reply.
What we don't
- telemetry from the app. the binary makes zero outbound calls.
- your shell history, your dotfiles, your keystrokes, your command output. none of it leaves your machine.
- cookies on the marketing site. there are no third-party trackers.
- we don't sell, rent, swap, or trade your email. ever.
- no autoupdater pinging in the background. you update when you choose.
The long version
Email storage. If you sign up for the beta, your email lives in our mailing-list provider (used for delivery and unsubscribe links) and a private spreadsheet we own. That's the entire list of places it exists. You can request deletion any time at hi@soumitrasengupta.com and it will be gone within 7 days.
Analytics. The website uses a privacy-respecting analytics tool that does not set cookies, does not track users across sites, and does not collect IP addresses in a way that identifies you. It tells us things like “200 people read the FAQ this week” — no more, no less.
The app itself.Once installed, Cool Retro Terminal does not talk to our servers, does not call home, does not push usage data, does not check for updates in the background. It is a terminal emulator with a CRT shader. It runs your shell. That's it.
Your rights. Under GDPR / CCPA / general human decency, you can ask us to (a) tell you what we have on you, (b) correct it, (c) delete it, (d) export it. Email hi@soumitrasengupta.comwith the word “privacy” somewhere in the subject line and we'll handle it within 30 days, usually within 24 hours.
Changes. If this policy ever changes, we'll email anyone on the list and update this page. We will never quietly broaden the scope.
